Generations of Miller

E.R. Seary's Book of Newfoundland Names

This is what Seary writes:

A surname of England, Ireland and Scotland, from Middle English mylne - mill or Old Norse mylnari - miller.  Miller is an assimilated form of Milner.  Millar is a Scots form.  (Reaney, Cottle, MacLysaght, Black).

Guppy traced Miller in fourteen (14) counties in England, and Millar and Miller over the greater part of Scotland though rare in the north.  MacLysaght found Millar and Miller very numerous in County Antrim and adjacent counties.
